Santos Beirao Portuguese Guitar in fitted hard case
Santos Beirao Portuguese Guitar in fitted hard case This fine Portuguese guitar is an excellent example of the intricate work undertaken by Santos Beirao. Everything about the “guitarra” oozes high workmanship. Even the little Kingfisher emblem on the headstock is jewel encrusted and has a tiny red eye. The nut and the bridge are made from bone. The Rosewood fingerboard is in excellent shape. The brass frets show little sign of wear. The finish to the body and the back of the neck is super-smooth. The solid Spruce top has 2 beautifully matched halves. The purfling and soundhole marquetry is excuisite. The Mongoy back and sides are lovely with just one very small lighter mark on the side of the upper left bout. There is a very fine crack in the lacquer on the back down the centreline. The back is solid though. There is no flex. This is the Coimbra version of the Santos Beirao Portuguese Guitar in fitted hard case, with the flat headstock (as opposed to the Lisboa which has a shorter scale and a scrolled top). It has a modern look about it. As it’s not dated, I would hazard a guess that it was constructed not long before their shop closed down in the early ‘80’s. I’m offering this beautiful Portuguese guitar with quite a few spare loop-end strings. In fact 2 more strings will need to be fitted. If you would like me to do this before shipping, let me know.
