Hofner President Thinline electro acoustic 1959 – Blonde
Hofner President Thin electro acoustic 1959 - Blonde The original Thinline is extremely rare. Rarer still, is an original version without splits, excessive wear and with very good action. This Hofner President Thinline is worth owning. It’s beautiful and sounds fantastic. The body is 2” deep and the lower bout width is 16 ¼”. It appears to have everything in its original state with the exception of one replaced pot. The pot code shows that it was fitted in the 30th Week of 1959. (309) and the body is dated with 2nd Oct 1959. It has a carved spruce top with flamed maple veneer back and sides. The headstock is absolutely correct for a 1959 model, with all inlays still intact and HOFNER inlaid at the top with correct splayed top corners to the headstock. The tuners are original and still work fine. The tuners are brass and single machine heads. The 5 piece laminated maple neck is lovely and smooth at the back. The bound Rosewood fingerboard is in excellent shape. The frets are also in good order. Action is currently set at about 2.5mm but there’s room for adjustment either way. If you look very closely, you can see a slight split in the lacquer on either side of the neck where the bottom of the neck has been scarfed into the top. It’s a split in the lacquer and not a split in the neck. The body is correctly bound in white (top and bottom) with fine purfling around the top binding. The original tortoise shell scratch plate is in good condition. Hofner decal is in the correct top left bout location. There are some marks in the lacquer to either side. This has only marked the lacquer and has not affected the flamed maple. The original pickups are fitted. I’ve had the pots off the body and it’s clear that one of the pots has been replaced. One of the switches is slightly loose too, but it still works. The plastic pearlised plate under the switches has a little damage to the surface. If you’ve been after one of the very best original Hofner President Thinline’s from before 1960, then this is your chance. You are very welcome to come and try it. Just call. An interesting point about this guitar is the label. It is printed, rather than hand written. Supplied in a non-original hard shell.
