Hofner 455 archtop early 1950’s model in Tobacco Sunburst
Hofner 455 archtop early 1950’s model in Tobacco Sunburst The Hofner 455 was the non-Selmer version of the Senator, but with some lovely styling tweaks. It also appears to be considerably less available, so it will be of interest to collectors. The finish on this guitar is lovely. It has a nice patina with just a few small marks on the back of the body. The front and the sides are in excellent condition with the top and back binding in very good shape. This is an early Hofner 455 archtop, as it has the Rhomboid facia design on the headstock. The early models were also supplied without neck binding. There are just 2 modifications to this guitar. Both of them are aesthetic and can easily be sorted. The tuning buttons should be oval and the original scratch plate has had a piece removed, presumably to accommodate a pickup. Both the tuning buttons and the scratch plate are readily available. There is a small sticker at the top of the headstock. I’ve left it there for authenticity. If you would like it removed when you buy it, I will get it done. The neck is pretty good. It has a very small amount of warp (which is to be expected) but this is no disaster. The action is around 2mm at the 12th and there is no fret buzz. I’ve fitted a nice new set of D’Addario Phosphor Bronze custom light gauge strings. It sounds beautiful.
