1974 Vintage Vox AC30 British made hand-wired valve amp with original speakers
1974 Vintage Vox AC30 British made hand-wired valve amp with original speakers This Top Boost Vintage Vox AC30 is unusual because it still works well and retains the original Blue Alnico speakers. If you like vintage guitars with plenty of play-wear, why not have one of the best amps ever made with similar genuine play wear? I have deliberately not tidied this amp up. It would be too easy to recover the Tolex or the original grille cloth, but I think that’s where the charm is. If it was too tidy, you might as well go and get a new one! The original Serial number plate (that would have been tacked to the back panel) has long gone. Fortunately, the original paper sticker is inside and shows the serial number, which dates this Vintage Vox AC30 to September 1974. This date coincides with the date stamps on both speakers (“GJ making them also September 1974) In 1974 Dallas Arbiter (A British manufacturer) bought the VOX brand and production line from Stolec. Dallas instantly revived the old ways of manufacturing the amps. They returned to the good old JMI days with hand wiring and tag strip construction. When Dall bought the remaining stock from Stolec, they took-in around 100 Blue Alnico speakers. The makers of the Blue Alnicos, weren’t making them anymore, so Dallas used them up, before switching to 12” Celestion Green Backs. This amp was one of the first in the production line of the new Dallas hand-wired valve amps in 1974. The fact that it is fully working and still retains those all-important speakers makes it special. I believe the tubes have been replaced at some point as most of them are very clean. It has the following: 5 x ECC83, 1 x ECC82, 4 x EL84 and 1 x G234 This Vintage Vox AC30 all works as it should, with an amazing sound, reproducing the sound you can get from a JMI one, but for a much lower price. It’s powerful, but creamy. What’s missing / broken? It’s missing 6 small inline vent covers and 3 handles (although it has 2 non-original leather side handles). None of these are a fortune, but I’ve left this Vintage Vox AC30 just as it came to me, PX? Yes, I will exchange. What have you got?
